About Balti Chicken Recipe:

Balti Chicken originated from the word "Balti" which is a sort of a container, in this context, a container for food, it is sort of a glass bowl but made out of steel (also called "handi" in the local tongue).
It is similar to the taste of butter chicken because of the addition of cream and butter, also being less rich than butter chicken. So some people prefer balti chicken over butter chicken.
This dish is usually consumed in some parts of India and Pakistan.
Ingredients for Balti Chicken Recipe:
- 1 kg chicken
- 1 cup of oil
- 1/2 kg onions
- 1/4 kg tomatoes
- 1/4 kg yogurt
- Some salt, red chilies, and Haldi (turmeric powder) to taste.
- 5-6 green chilies
- 50 grams of butter
- 5-6 almonds (soaked and peeled)
- 2 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
- 5 black peppercorns
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 black cardamom
- 1 packet of cream (200 ml)
- 1 onion finely chopped
- 1 tbsp ginger
How to Cook Balti Chicken:
01In a bowl with 1/4 kg or 250 grams of yogurt, add salt, red chilies, turmeric powder, ginger, and ginger-garlic paste. Keep aside.
02In a pot with 1 cup of oil, add the onions and fry them on medium heat till they turn golden brown.
03Fry the chicken in the same pot. Basically on medium heat till the chicken turns golden brown.
04Then throw in the tomatoes and cook for a couple of minutes.
05Now pour the yogurt mix
06Keep the heat on medium, and cook till the water starts to dry out and leave oil behind.
07In a pan with butter, add onion, ginger, cardamom, cumin seeds, and peppercorns, and fry on medium-low heat.
08Now add this mixture to the handi (pot) along with the cream and green chilies.
09Cover the pot with a lid and cook till the chicken is done.
10Serve with raita and naan.
